Building Swiggy Foodies’ Community: For Higher Engagement & Retention

Creating a community that keeps users hooked

Food delivery apps like Zomato & Swiggy aren’t just about getting meals to your doorstep anymore. They’ve turned into full-fledged ecosystems: helping people discover new restaurants, book tables, try different cuisines, and even decide what to eat when they have no clue. But with so many options out there, keeping users engaged beyond just ordering food is the real challenge.

I recently worked on an idea for a Swiggy Foodies’ Community — a space within the app that goes beyond transactions and brings food lovers together. The goal was to make Swiggy more than just a delivery app by adding a layer of engagement that keeps users coming back, not just for food but for the experience around it.

Here’s my take on why this could work, how it could look, and the impact it could have. Also, it can be adopted by any food delivery app. I have just taken Swiggy app to narrow down the scope.

UX flows have been created on Figma:

  • Creator and Viewers flows have been created.
  • The UI and UX has been taken from the existing flows in the app to minimise the effort by all teams
  • Existing screen/component screenshots are added on Figma for reference.

Edge Cases:

1.When the feature is launched, there will be some dummy recommendations created by us so that the feed doesn’t look empty and lesser use cases to handle

2.Same recommendation made by multiple people will be shown separately as posts. Future scope will be to consolidate the recommendations.

Building a Swiggy Foodies’ Community isn’t just about adding another feature but it’s about creating a space where food lovers feel connected, engaged, and excited to keep coming back. Food delivery apps that go beyond transactions and tap into engagement can build stronger loyalty and retention.

There’s a huge opportunity here, and this is just one take on how it could work. What do you think? How would you design an MVP for foodies? Drop your thoughts! 🚀
